Il magazine Paste prosegue il suo viaggio a ritroso nel tempo, pubblicando una nuova classifica che omaggia gli 80’s, nella circostanza quelli di metà decennio, del 1985, anno di transizione, ricco comunque di uscite interessanti. “Se il 1984 è stato un anno eccezionale per la musica degli anni Ottanta – ricorda Paste nell’introduzione – il 1985 riuscì addirittura a superarlo. Certo, a metà decennio non uscirono album come ‘Like A Virgin‘ o ‘Purple Rain‘, ma non ce n’era bisogno. L’hip-hop stava prendendo slancio e il post-punk si stava trasformando in synth-pop; poeti e crooner pubblicavano alcuni dei lavori migliori delle loro carriere mentre band destinate a diventare fondamentali stavano ancora trovando la propria voce. Il 1985 – prosegue Paste – ci ha regalato un capolavoro di Kate Bush e ci ha aperto le porte ai mondi selvaggi, strani e perfetti di Prefab Sprout, Dead Can Dance e Jesus and Mary Chain. Dopo un anno straordinario per gli artisti americani nel 1984, il 1985 cambiò prospettiva, mettendo in luce talenti nuovi e affermati dall’altra parte dell’Atlantico.
